PotterCast #6: Transcript

Opening (0:00 - 02:20)

Welcome. Welcome to another... (Dumbledore) PotterCast.

Lori Damerell (LD): Welcome...

Matt Lewis (ML): ...to PotterCast, the official podcast of The Leaky Cauldron.

The Leaky Cauldron (Stan Shunpike). The Leaky Cauldron (Harry). You 'ear that, Ern? The Leaky Cauldron (Stan).

ML: Hi, Im Matt Lewis, Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter films. And now your host, Melissa Anelli.

Melissa Anelli (MA): Welcome to PotterCast 6! Im Melissa. Ive gotta say, its just so strange being introduced by Matt Lewis. Anyway, we have a great show for you today. Were celebrating Banned Books Week. Banned Books Week is a celebration of our right to choose. A lot of people cant read Harry Potter because it is one of the most challenged books on the American Library Associations list. Now a challenge happens when a parent, a citizen or anyone makes a formal request for a book to be taken off the shelf. The American Library Association gets hundreds of these requests every year, and many libraries choose to take the books out of childrens reach. So we at Leaky support this effort because it helps people get informed about censorship and why it can be harmful. We support it in the name of all Harry Potter fans and in honor of all those kids who would be Harry Potter fans, but cant because they cant get to them [the books]. So for more information on Banned Books Week, please visit our show notes at PotterCast.com. Well have all the relevant links there.

Youll hear more about banned books this week through most of this PotterCast. In the Modcast our forum moderators get together to discuss the frequently challenged on the American Library Associations list, and the impact those books have had on their lives. We have an In the Know segment featuring Beverly Becker, who is the Associate Director of the American Library Associations Office of Intellectual Freedom. Who gives us some great insider info on the process of challenging and banning a book, and the roles that libraries today play. And also the many challenges that Harry Potter has had to come up against over the years.

Then back to regular format this week, we have part two of our special interview with Matt Lewis. In this segment well get into discussion about the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Here is where we start discussing all the preparation that Mike Newell had them do for this film with the new actors, the scenes that had everyone on set buzzing and a lot more. Then at the end we have another exciting Mailbag segment where Sue, Kristin and I get into some of your questions. And dont worry, John Noe will be back at the end to wrap up. See you soon, heres Sue with the News!
