PotterCast #51: Featuring Matt Lewis! Transcript

Opening (0:00 - 7:10)

Melissa Anelli (MA): This podcast is brought to you by the new hit series, Veronica Mars: Season Two, now on DVD. Veronica is a smart and fearless eighteen year old private investigator apprentice dedicated to solving tough mysteries in the seaside town of Neptune. Discover Veronica Mars: Season Two, now on DVD.

MA: Welcome Potter Patsies! It's PotterCast Number Fifty-One. I'm Melissa and, as usual, we have a great, albeit different, show for you this week. First of all, I have to say hi to somebody else. It's a little crowded in this room, here at PotterCast. Who's that? Who's that?

Sue Upton (SU): Oof! Oof! Oof! Hello! Hi!

MA: Hey, Sue!

SU: Hi, Melissa!

MA: How you doin'?

SU: (laughs) I'm moving in. I'm coming in.

MA: Hi, Sue.

SU: Hi, Melissa! I'm here.

MA: Hi! What are you doing here?

SU: I just want to come hang out. I want to be here. (laughs) Coming in, moving in.

MA: Well, come in. I decided that with this brand new, swanky PotterCast feel (SU: Yeah?) that the intro was boring to do alone. I was lonely, lonely, (sniffles and pretends to cry) lonely.

SU: Aw! No, you're never alone Melissa. You're never alone!

MA: Aw, apparently not anymore. ( laughs) So, anyway, Sue's around now and John will be around from now on. We're all gonna be around for the whole show. ( sighs) We have so, so many changes coming to PotterCast. John's not here right now, but he will be from now on, (SU: Mm-hm.) in the intro with us. He had some business to attend to, so he will be around for the Mailbag this week. He'll also be around for the very special interview, which we'll talk about in a second. (SU: Mm-hm!) But, yeah, a lot of changes coming to PotterCast. We're in PotterCast Fifty-one. (SU: Wow!) It’s the start of a whole new era around here, not quite a year. Our year anniversary is August 32nd, but since we have a lot of changes going on, here's what they are. First of all, we have to say goodbye to the Modcast.

SU: Yeah. Bye.

MA: We had a great year with them, but one of our main Modcasters, Lori, has had to move on. She'll no longer be around on Leaky or on PotterCast, so we decided that it was time to wrap the kind of conversation we aim to get from the Modcast right into Canon Conundrums. (SU: Mm-hm.) And, speaking of Canon Conundrums, there is no Canon Conundrums this week...

SU: (laughs with ) This week, but...

MA: ...because Steve Vander Ark is off camping, and so we need Steve...

SU: Yes, we do.

MA: ...on the Canon Conundrums.

SU: It's just not a real, complete Canon Conundrum without Steve.

MA: No, it's really not, you know? So we decided that, "Hey, Steve, guess what? We're going to wait for you." Starting next week you'll have your Canon Conundrums back, but that does not mean this show is not packed. We have the return of the Mailbag, which we know (SU: Yes.) a lot of you are missing.

SU: Mm-hm! And Kristin. Kristin is there. Yay!

MA: Kristin's there. A part of the reason we had to say goodbye to the Modcast is that we wanted more room in the show to do what most of you were missing, which is the mail. With the addition of Canon Conundrums, we had to shift some things around. So, we do have the Mailbag back and I'm so happy to say that we have the first of many weeks of Matthew Lewis (SU: Woo-hoo!) here on the show.

SU: Neville is in the house, baby!

MA: In the house.

SU: Woo-hoo!

MA: You know? He came in and he did a great couple of weeks' worth of interviews with the three of us. (SU: Mm-hm.) Sue, what did we talk about?

SU: Oh, everything from the Potter theories to the movies. I mean, he's got some great scoops. He's a marvelous guy; he's just a fan. We talked so long. He really knows his Potter. You guys are in for a great, great interview when you hear him talk. It's just...

MA: We actually were able to get some of you on the line with him, so eventually... He'll be in the show for at least three weeks, (SU: Yeah.) so throughout these weeks you will get to hear what happened. We just had a lot of fun with him. Again, that's coming in our Extendable Ears. (SU: Mm-hm.) We will have a lot more of the fan interaction that you guys like. We'll have more than interviews; we have a lot of great stuff coming. First of all, a couple of announcements: the voting in the Podcast Awards is now closed. We want to thank you guys for all the help. We know that you guys have been voting every day since we made the announcement. We think it's really awesome. (SU: Yay!) Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully (SU: Yes.) if our plan has succeeded, then MuggleCast and PotterCast will both be going to California for the Podcast Awards. Hopefully, we'll be able to put on a live LeakyMug out there.

SU: Wow.

MA: Yeah, oh, it'll be so much fun.

SU: Can you imagine PotterCast in California? It'd just be awesome.

MA: Well, 'cause we haven't seen enough of each other.

SU: And LeakyMug. And all of us all together.

MA: Hopefully, MuggleCast will be picking up the People's Choice Award, (SU: Mm-hm.) which is the top award at the Podcast Awards, and we'll be picking up, hopefully, fingers crossed, Best Entertainment, which we never expected to be nominated for...

SU: (laughing) No.

MA: ...but we can, we think it would be really cool anyway. We failed to mention it, but we were nominated also for a Parsec Award. (SU: Yes.) A Parsec Award is the Dragon*Con award. It's the largest sci-fi/fantasy convention in the country, (SU: Mm-hm.) I mean, in the world. And there was a lot of people nominated for Best Fan Podcast and they narrowed it down to a short list. And it's a judge's award; usually, we're used to people's choice awards, as you guys always do amazingly by us, but this is purely a judging award. (SU: Wow.) So, that we were brought - chosen for this top five is really cool by us because it represents a recognition in the larger science fiction community, which, you know, sometimes doesn't happen with Potter (SU: No.) because of its popularity. Sometimes, you know, the sci-fi community sometimes gives it the cold shoulder because of the popularity. (SU: Right.) So, we're very happy to see that.

SU: You know, that's really cool. That Dragon*Con, there's gonna be a lot of Potter people there, and I'm just, it's really a nice honor. (MA: Yeah.) I'm surprised, actually. I think it's pretty cool.

MA: It's really cool. Also, buy your T-shirts. We haven't talked about them in a little while, but you have to go buy your T-shirts before we wipe everything clean and go with some new designs in the next couple of months, so you wanna make sure you buy those. That's shopsamandnate.com or you can go through the link at the main page of Leaky at Leakynews.com.

SU: Mm-hm. And did you hear her right? Yes, you did, she said new designs are coming, so I think that's pretty exciting.

MA: Yeah, eventually. So it sounds like we're about ready to go over to Sue's News.

SU: Uh-huh. News! All about the news.

MA: And then we'll be coming right back to you with our news wrap, our discussion. That's what we call it in PotterCast-land. We call it the "News Wrap." When we name our file, it's the news wrap.

SU: Oh, that's a secret reveal. There you go.

MA: It's a secret. A big PotterCast secret. "Call the file the news wrap, Melissa, forty-two." (laughs with ) Okay, yeah. Okay.

SU: (laughing) Let's go.

MA: Let's go.
