Comments for "PotterCast 159: Guess That Book!"

I really have nothing to say about the show other than the fact that I was sad that Melissa wasn't on for the drums. However, the fact that the comments are buzzing about Scottish cuisine and that this is the most active I've seen Melissa on the forums makes me glad. Also, as sson as I heard "Scotland" and "Haggis" on the show, I immediately figured Neil would have something to say.

Oh yeah, in case anyone going on tour who saw the e-mail about places to eat while on tour was wondering which fan sent it, that was me. I forgot to give a name.

"LOL! Mollywobble, rusty pole. I'm sorry Neil, but even the way you described eating black pudding I can't imagine eating it myself....ever.

So as said before, everyone is allowed to not want to ever eat a food. :~D"

Yeah, the rusty pole thing was pretty funny!

Griffe, your quite right, anyone is free to eat or not eat anything they like (or dislike). There are plenty of things that I don't like, British and foreign, and plenty that I won't even try. i just think it's unfair to say that a country's entire cuisine is bad because of a few dishes that I may not like the taste of, or the idea of. The Bourdain show mentioned also pointed out that Scotland has the best beef in the world, and some of the best seafood in the world. But all we heard was the "Scottish" and "good food" "rarely go together". Just because you've been somewhere and not had good food doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Neil in Scotland you're totally right! I realize your comment was last page but I can't believe I thought those were the Stephen Fry versions. If you'll believe it, I actually listen to the Jim Dale books constantly (while cooking, exercising, travelling, going to sleep, etc); I guess I was just making excuses to myself about why I couldn't get one or two of them right away(lol). Haha, I guess that explains why I was so surprised that the character voices were so similar to the ones I listen to. I went back and listened to one or two, and then played the same clip in the corresponding audio books and realized that I was mistaken.

And my comment about never trying the Haggis has more to do with my tendancy not to enjoy meat that isn't beef; I know some people who I'm sure would love it.

Mollywobble, a rusty pole?? Oh dear!!! Lol!

It's definitely not as bad as that!! If you're imagining that it tastes like your blood when you cut your finger and put it in your mouth, then rest assured it's nothing like that. It does have a very strong flavour though and I never used to like it when I was a kid. Even now I only tend to eat it as an ingredient e.g. chopped black pudding mixed into mashed potatoes and served with a medium rare fillet steak with a whiskey cream sauce. Lovely!

Griffie, glad we're on the same page. I can see why some would eat haggis. It probably just tastes like meat, etc. But black pudding? I think it would be like licking a rusty pole. We need confirmation from Neil on this.
